What you will learn
Express recurring situations or conditions with wenn and correct verb order.
Wenn clauses: repetition and conditions
Wenn can mean whenever for recurring situations or if for a condition. Immer and jedes Mal make repetition clear: Immer wenn ich frei habe, lese ich. The present can also express a possible future condition: Wenn ich morgen Zeit habe, komme ich.
The finite verb goes last in a wenn clause. If it comes first, the main clause begins with its verb, optionally preceded by dann: Wenn es regnet, bleiben wir zu Hause. Wenn es regnet, dann bleiben wir zu Hause.
For a single event in the past, normally use als: Als ich gestern nach Hause kam, war es spät. Repeated past events can use immer wenn. This lesson practises real conditions and repetition.
